Biography
Friedrich von Ledebur was an Austrian actor. Born in Nisko in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Poland), he served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian cavalry during the First World War. After the war he worked in a variety of jobs while travelling, including gold mining and rodeo riding, before settling in the United States in 1939.
He made his film debut in 1945 and appeared in numerous productions over the following decades. He is known for roles including Queequeg in Moby Dick (1956), a part in Alexander the Great (1955), and the German Leader in Slaughterhouse-Five (1972). He played the Medium in Juliet of the Spirits (1965) and Brother Christophorus in the Twilight Zone episode 'The Howling Man' (1960).
His screen work also included uncredited appearances in Notorious (1946) and The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964). He remained active into the 1970s and 1980s.
