Biography
Fyodor Dobronravov was a Soviet cinematographer. Born on 2 September 1921 in Ulan-Ude (then Verkhneudinsk), he served in the Red Army during the Second World War before graduating from the cinematography faculty of VGIK in 1950. He subsequently worked at Mosfilm.
His credits include The Elusive Avengers (1966), The New Adventures of the Elusive Avengers (1968), Hot Snow (1972) and Dersu Uzala (1975), the latter a Japanese-Soviet co-production directed by Akira Kurosawa on which he shared cinematography duties with Asakazu Nakai and Yuri Gantman. He was named an Honoured Artist of the RSFSR in 1973 and received the State Prize of the RSFSR in 1975.
Dobronravov emigrated to the United States in 1984 and died there on 1 December 2014.
