Biography
Gabriel Arcand is a Canadian actor. Born on 4 June 1949 in Deschambault, Quebec, he studied philosophy at McGill University before training in theatre in France and Poland. He made his screen debut in 1972 in his brother Denys Arcand’s La Maudite Galette and has appeared in numerous Quebec films, including Les Plouffe (1981), Le Crime d’Ovide Plouffe (1984), Agnes of God (1985) and A Kid (2016).
Arcand received the Genie Award for Best Actor in 1985 for Le Crime d’Ovide Plouffe and for Best Supporting Actor in 1987 for The Decline of the American Empire (1986), in which he also contributed as a collaborating writer. He later won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor in 2014 for Le Démantèlement.
