Biography
Gabriel Gabrio, born Édouard Gabriel Lelièvre, was a French stage and film actor. He made his screen debut in the 1920 silent film La fête espagnole and appeared in around 38 films until the early 1940s. His early career included extensive stage work in Paris theatres after an interest in puppet theatre as a child and service in the First World War.
He is known for roles including Jean Valjean in the 1925 adaptation of Les Misérables, Sulphart in Wooden Crosses (1932), Cesare Borgia in Lucrèce Borgia (1935), Carlos in Pépé le Moko (1937), Panturle in Harvest (1937) and the Executioner in The Devil's Envoys (1942). He died in 1946.
