Biography
Gary Ashiya (ゲイリー芦屋) is a Japanese composer and arranger. He was born on 13 September 1966 in Tokyo and is affiliated with the music production company Toyro Music.
He began working as a professional composer in 1990 after studying piano from childhood and later jazz and classical music. His film credits include Cure (1997), Charisma (1999), Ju-on: The Curse (2000), Ju-on: The Curse 2 (2000), Tomie: Rebirth (2001), Séance (2004), Loft (2006), Ju-On: White Ghost (2009) and Ju-On: Black Ghost (2009). He has also composed for numerous television series and other projects.
His stage name derives from American record producer Gary Usher. He has released a compilation of his film music, Ulam's Spiral (2015), and performs as part of the unit Mustache Widow with Yuichi Kishino.
