Biography
Gary Tarn is a British filmmaker and composer. Born in 1962 in London, he began his career as a member of the band Drum Theatre, which had a European number-one hit in 1985 with 'Eldorado'. He later created soundtracks for commercials and short films, including the Brothers Quay's The Phantom Museum (2003).
Tarn's debut feature Black Sun (2005), which he directed, shot, edited, produced and scored, is a documentary exploring the life of French artist Hugues de Montalembert after he was blinded in a 1978 assault in New York. Executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón and produced by John Battsek, it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and received a nomination for the BAFTA Carl Foreman Award in 2007, as well as several festival prizes. His subsequent feature The Prophet (2011) adapts Kahlil Gibran's book, narrated by Thandie Newton.
