Biography
Gaspar Galaz is a Chilean astronomer and professor at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He obtained his doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Paris in 1997 and has been on the faculty since the early 2000s, with research focused on the formation and evolution of galaxies.
He is best known for appearing as himself in the 2010 documentary Nostalgia for the Light, directed by Patricio Guzmán, in which he discusses astronomy, time and memory while working at observatories in the Atacama Desert. He has also featured as an astronomer in the 2019 documentary Star Stuff and appeared on the Chilean television series Congreso Futuro (2014–2015).
