Biography
George Smith Lindsey (1928–2012) was an American character actor and comedian, best known for playing Goober Pyle on the television series The Andy Griffith Show (1964–1968) and its sequel Mayberry R.F.D. (1968–1971), as well as for his long-running appearances on Hee-Haw.
Lindsey provided voice work for several Disney animated features, including Lafayette in The Aristocats (1970), Trigger the vulture in Robin Hood (1973) and Rabbit in The Rescuers (1977). He appeared in guest roles on series such as Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone and MASH, and in films including Cannonball Run II* (1984).
Born in Fairfield, Alabama, Lindsey trained at the American Theatre Wing in New York before moving to Los Angeles in the early 1960s.
