Biography
George Toles is a screenwriter and academic. Born in Buffalo, New York, he has collaborated extensively with Canadian director Guy Maddin since the early 1990s.
He co-wrote the screenplay for Archangel (1990) and contributed to later Maddin films including The Saddest Music in the World (2003), Brand Upon the Brain! (2007) and the dialogue for My Winnipeg (2008). Toles has also written stories and screenplays for other projects such as Edison and Leo (2008) and Keyhole (2011).
Toles is Distinguished Professor of Literature and Film at the University of Manitoba and the author of books on cinema including A House Made of Light: Essays on the Art of Film.
