Biography
Georges Bizet was a French composer. Born in Paris on 25 October 1838, he entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of nine and studied with teachers including Antoine Marmontel, François Benoist and Jacques Halévy. In 1857 he won the Prix de Rome.
Bizet composed operas including Les Pêcheurs de perles (1863), La jolie fille de Perth (1867) and Carmen (1875). His incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's L'Arlésienne (1872) brought him recognition. He died in Bougival on 3 June 1875. His music from Carmen features in the 1954 film Carmen Jones and elements appear in the series Bluey (2018).
