Biography
Georges Metaxa, also credited as George Radu Metaxa, was a Romanian-born American singer and actor. Born in Bucharest, he worked as a civil servant in Romania before emigrating to London in 1926 to pursue a career in musical comedy.
He appeared in stage productions including Noël Coward's Bitter Sweet and made his film debut in Secrets of a Secretary (1931). Metaxa is known for his role as bandleader Ricky Romero in the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musical Swing Time (1936), as well as supporting parts in films such as The Mask of Dimitrios (1944). He performed in other pictures including Hi Diddle Diddle (1943) and continued working in Hollywood until the mid-1940s.
