Biography
Georges Van Parys was a French composer of film music, operettas and songs. Born in Paris in 1902, he began his career as a pianist in cabarets before composing for the cinema from the early 1930s. He wrote scores for more than 300 films, often in collaboration with directors such as René Clair.
His notable film credits include L'Âge d'or (1930), Le Million (1931), Casque d'Or (1952), The Earrings of Madame de... (1953), Diabolique (1955) and Les Misérables (1958). He also composed operettas, frequently with Philippe Parès, and served as vice-president of the Sacem, receiving its Grand Prix de la musique in 1968. Van Parys died in Paris in 1971.
