Biography
Gerald Hamer, born Geoffrey Earl Watton, was a British actor. He was born in Llandudno, Wales, in November 1886 and began his professional stage career in the United Kingdom in 1916, appearing in Shakespeare productions and other plays. He later performed on Broadway in the 1920s and early 1930s before moving to the United States in 1935.
Hamer made his Hollywood film debut in an uncredited role in Swing Time (1936). He appeared in numerous small and uncredited parts in films of the 1930s and 1940s, including several entries in the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series such as Sherlock Holmes in Washington (1943), The Scarlet Claw (1944), Pursuit to Algiers (1945) and Terror by Night (1946). He also appeared on television from the 1950s. Hamer died in Hollywood, California, in July 1972.
