Biography
Gertrude Welcker was a German stage and silent film actress. She was born on 16 July 1896 in Dresden and died on 1 August 1988 in Danderyd, Sweden. From 1916 to 1919 she performed at theatres associated with Max Reinhardt in Berlin, including the Deutsches Theater, Kammerspiele and Volksbühne, after earlier work in Dresden.
Welcker made her film debut in 1917 and appeared in approximately 64 films up to 1925. She is known for her role as Countess Dusy Told in Fritz Lang's Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922). Other credits include Die Dame in Schwarz (1920) and Zur Chronik von Grieshuus (1925). She retired from film in the mid-1920s and from the stage in 1930.
In 1930 she married Swedish painter Otto Gustaf Carlsund; they divorced in 1937. From 1941 she worked with the Red Cross and fled to Sweden towards the end of the Second World War, where she lived under the name Gertrud Carlsund.
