Biography
Gesa Jäger is a German film editor. Born in 1981 in Hamburg, she initially studied history before discovering an interest in editing through internships. She completed an apprenticeship in film and ENG editing at Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hamburg and later studied editing at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, graduating in 2013.
Her graduation film Love Steaks (2013), directed by Jakob Lass, received several awards including the New German Cinema Award. She has since collaborated again with Lass on Tiger Girl (2017). Jäger edited two episodes of the Netflix miniseries Unorthodox (2020), directed by Maria Schrader, alongside Hansjörg Weißbrich. For her work on The Teachers' Lounge (2023, also known as Das Lehrerzimmer), directed by Ilker Çatak, she won the German Film Award for Best Editing. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the European Film Academy, and lives and works in Berlin.
