Biography
Gianni Sbarra (1929–2015), also credited as Giovanni Sbarra, was an Italian production designer and scenographer. Born in Siena, Tuscany, he began his working life as a baseball player and won the first Italian championship with Lazio.
From the late 1960s to the 1990s he worked primarily with directors Paolo and Vittorio Taviani on films including Allonsanfàn (1974), Padre Padrone (1977), The Night of the Shooting Stars (1982) and Fiorile (1993), for which he received the David di Donatello for best production design. Other credits include Sweet Dreams (1981, as Giovanni Sbarra) and films by Nanni Moretti such as Ecce bombo (1978) and Sweet Dreams (1981).
