Biography
Gilles Durieux was a French screenwriter, journalist, film critic, photographer and writer. Born Joseph François Apperry on 19 May 1934 in Lesneven, Finistère, he died on 31 May 2023 in Landerneau.
He began as a journalist with the weekly Radar and the film magazine Cinémonde, later becoming responsible for fiction at Canal+. He served as head of the actors' bureau at the Cannes Film Festival and as press director for Unifrance Films. His screenwriting credits include the 1983 biopic Édith et Marcel and adaptations for the television series Paul Gauguin (1975).
Durieux also appeared as an actor in films including L'Argent (1983) and L'imprécateur (1977). He published essays, biographies and poetry, among them works on Lino Ventura, Jean Marais and Jean-Paul Belmondo.
