Biography
Gina Lollobrigida was an Italian actress. Born Luigia Lollobrigida on 4 July 1927 in Subiaco, she began her career in Italian films in the late 1940s after placing third in the 1947 Miss Italy contest. She appeared in minor roles before gaining prominence in the early 1950s.
Her international breakthrough came with films such as Fanfan la Tulipe (1952), Bread, Love and Dreams (1953) and Beat the Devil (1953), in which she played Maria Dannreuther opposite Humphrey Bogart. She went on to star in Hollywood productions including Trapeze (1956), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1956) and Solomon and Sheba (1959).
Lollobrigida later worked as a photojournalist, securing an interview with Fidel Castro, and as a sculptor. She died in Rome on 16 January 2023.
