Biography
Giorgi Mdivani (also credited as Georgiy Mdivani or Gheorghij Mdivani) was a Georgian Soviet playwright and screenwriter. He began writing plays in 1922 and contributed screenplays to Soviet cinema from the late 1920s onwards, working in both Georgian and Russian.
His credits include the co-written screenplay for The Red and the White (1967), directed by Miklós Jancsó, and Sunflower (1970). He received the title of Honoured Artist of the Georgian SSR in 1961 and the State Prize of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1978.
Mdivani studied law at Tbilisi University and began working in film studios in 1928. He was a member of the Communist Party from 1944.
