Biography
Giuseppe Bertolucci was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Born in Parma in 1947, he began working in cinema as an assistant director to his brother Bernardo Bertolucci on films including The Spider's Stratagem (1970) and 1900 (1976), on which he also received a writing credit.
He made his directorial debut with the television film Andare e venire (1972) and gained attention with Berlinguer: I Love You (1977), which he wrote and directed for Roberto Benigni. Subsequent films include Segreti segreti (1985), I cammelli (1988) and The Sweet Sounds of Life (1999). He also directed documentaries and worked in theatre, and served for many years as president of the Cineteca di Bologna. Bertolucci died in Diso in 2012.
