Biography
Giuseppe De Santis (11 February 1917 – 16 May 1997) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He was born in Fondi, Lazio, and began his career as a film critic before working as a screenwriter and assistant director.
In 1942 he collaborated on the screenplay for Ossessione (1943), directed by Luchino Visconti. He made his directorial debut with Caccia tragica (1947) and went on to direct Riso amaro (1949), Roma ore 11 (1952) and La strada lunga un anno (1958). He was the brother of cinematographer Pasqualino De Santis and was married to Yugoslav actress Gordana Miletic.
