Biography
Glenn Vernice Cunningham was an American middle-distance runner and track athlete who appeared uncredited as Self in the documentary film Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations (1938).
Born on 4 August 1909 in Atlanta, Kansas, he overcame severe childhood leg injuries to compete at the 1932 and 1936 Olympic Games, winning silver in the 1,500 metres in Berlin. He set the world mile record in 1934 and received the James E. Sullivan Award as the top American amateur athlete in 1933. Cunningham earned degrees from the University of Kansas, the University of Iowa and New York University, and later worked in physical education and youth programmes. He died on 10 March 1988 in Menifee, Arkansas.
