Biography
Glória Menezes was a Brazilian actress. Born Nilcedes Soares de Magalhães in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, on 19 October 1934, she trained at the University of São Paulo's School of Dramatic Art and began her professional career in theatre and on São Paulo television in 1959.
She made her film debut as Rosa in O Pagador de Promessas (1962; English title The Given Word), the only Brazilian film to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Menezes became a leading figure in Brazilian television, appearing in more than forty telenovelas, often alongside her husband, actor Tarcísio Meira, whom she married in 1962. Their collaborations included Irmãos Coragem (1970) and Guerra dos Sexos (1983). She died in Rio de Janeiro on 18 August 2026.
