Biography
Gregory Nava is an American film director, screenwriter and producer. He was born on 10 April 1949 in San Diego, California, and graduated from UCLA with an MFA in 1976.
His debut feature, The Confessions of Amans (1976), won the Best First Feature Award at the Chicago International Film Festival. Nava gained wider recognition with El Norte (1983), which he directed, wrote the story for and co-wrote the screenplay; the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. His other directing credits include My Family (1995), Selena (1997), Why Do Fools Fall in Love (1998) and Bordertown (2007). He also wrote the screenplay for Frida (2002).
Three of his films have been selected for the National Film Registry. Nava was married to producer and writer Anna Thomas from 1975 until their divorce in 2006; they collaborated on several projects.
