Biography
Gustaw Holoubek was a Polish actor, director and politician. Born in Kraków on 21 April 1923, he trained at the State Dramatic Studio in Kraków and made his professional stage debut in 1947.
He appeared in numerous Polish films, including as Kuba Kowalski in The Noose (1958), Don Pedro Velasquez in The Saragossa Manuscript (1965), Dr Gotard in The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973) and a role in With Fire and Sword (1999). He also worked extensively in theatre, directed productions and served as a member of the Sejm and later the Senate.
Holoubek taught at the Academy of Theatre in Warsaw and received several state honours. He died in Warsaw on 6 March 2008.
