Biography
Hamza Al-Khateab is a Syrian doctor and activist who appears as himself in the 2019 documentary For Sama. The film, co-directed by his wife Waad al-Kateab, documents their life in besieged eastern Aleppo during the Syrian civil war, where he managed al-Quds Hospital, one of the last remaining medical facilities in the area.
Al-Kateab was born and raised in Aleppo. He trained and worked as a doctor, establishing and running the hospital from 2012 until the end of the Battle of Aleppo in 2016. He is also credited as a consultant on the film under the name Zahed Katurji and has appeared as himself in an episode of the television series Frontline.
