Biography
Hannes Salat (also credited as Johannes Salat) is an Austrian production designer born in Vienna in 1969. He trained at the Modeschule Hetzendorf, graduating in 1990 with a specialisation in leatherwork and handbags, before entering film as a production design assistant on Kino im Kopf (1996). His first credit as production designer came with Heller als der Mond (2000).
Salat has worked on numerous Austrian and international films and television productions. He is known for his production design on Goodnight Mommy (2014) and Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020). He has received the Austrian Film Prize for Best Production Design three times, for Goodnight Mommy, Hidden Reserves (2016) and Quo Vadis, Aida?. Since 2014 he has taught production design at the Vienna Film Academy and the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
