Biography
Hans Adalbert Schlettow (also credited as H. A. v. Schlettow and similar variants) was a German film actor. He began his stage career in 1908 as a volunteer at the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt and later worked at theatres in Barmen and Mannheim before joining the Phantastischen Theater in Berlin in 1920. He appeared in approximately 150–160 films between 1917 and 1945, the majority during the silent era.
Schlettow played Georg, the chauffeur, in Fritz Lang’s Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler (1922). He is also known for the role of Hagen von Tronje in Lang’s Die Nibelungen: Siegfried and Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild’s Revenge (both 1924), and for his part in Asphalt (1929). He appeared in the British film A Cottage on Dartmoor (1929) and continued working in sound films into the 1940s.
Schlettow died in Berlin during the Battle of Berlin on 30 April 1945.
