Biography
Hans-Jürgen Schatz is a German actor born on 10 October 1958 in Berlin. After studying Germanistik and Theatre Studies, he began his career with stage work at theatres including the Hebbel-Theater in Berlin and the Theater am Dom in Cologne, followed by film and television roles from the early 1980s.
He gained national recognition for his portrayal of Wilfried Wiegand in Edgar Reitz’s Heimat – Eine deutsche Chronik (1984) and for playing Max Kühn across 90 episodes of the ARD series Der Fahnder (1984–1993). He later appeared in the ZDF comedies Salto Postale (1993–1996) and Salto Kommunale (1998–2001) as Maximilian Mäßig. Schatz has also worked extensively as a narrator and reciter, receiving the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik and the ECHO Klassik award, and was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande.
