Biography
Hans Unterkircher (22 August 1894 – 27 May 1971) was an Austrian actor and film director. He appeared in more than sixty films between 1916 and 1971, as well as working extensively in the theatre.
Born in Graz, he trained at the Vienna Conservatory and began his stage career in 1910. He performed in Graz, Aussig and Berlin, where he worked under Max Reinhardt, before moving to New York in 1914 and Hollywood in 1916 under contract to Universal. He returned to Europe in 1918 and continued working in film and on stage in Germany and Austria. His best-known screen role was as the hotel manager in F. W. Murnau’s The Last Laugh (1924). He also directed the 1948 film An klingenden Ufern.
