Biography
Harry Baer, also credited as Harry Zöttl and Harry Bär, is a German actor, assistant director, producer and author. He was born on 27 September 1947 in Biberach an der Riß, Germany. He began his career in Munich by joining the experimental Action Theatre group, which became the Antiteater under Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Baer made his stage debut in Fassbinder's play Katzelmacher and his screen debut in the 1969 film adaptation.
Baer appeared in numerous Fassbinder films, including Gods of the Plague (1970), Jail Bait (1972) and Fox and His Friends (1975), in which he played Philip. He also worked as assistant director and production manager on several of the director's projects, including The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979) and Querelle (1982). After a mid-1970s split, he returned to collaborate with Fassbinder until the latter's death in 1982. Baer has continued acting in film and television and wrote a 1990 biography of Fassbinder.
