Biography
Harry Betts was an American jazz trombonist and composer. Born in New York on 15 September 1922 and raised in Fresno, California, he played in Stan Kenton's orchestra during the 1950s and appeared on Ella Fitzgerald's 1959 album Get Happy!.
Betts composed and orchestrated scores for numerous films and television productions. His credits include original music for Black Mama, White Mama (1973), Little Cigars (1973) and Nice Dreams (1981), as well as orchestrations on Ghost Story (1981). Music from his Black Mama, White Mama score was later used in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003). He also released the album The Jazz Soul of Doctor Kildare in 1962 and arranged material for singer Jack Jones. Betts died on 13 July 2012.
