Biography
Harvey Braban, born George William Chapman, was a British stage and film actor. He was born on 19 May 1883 in Brighton, Sussex, and performed regularly in West End plays from the early 1900s, with occasional Broadway appearances.
From 1920 he appeared in British silent films produced by Stoll Pictures and the Ideal Film Company, often in crime and melodrama roles. He played the Chief Inspector in Alfred Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929) and was frequently cast as policemen or authority figures thereafter. One of his final screen roles was as Lord Salisbury in Sixty Glorious Years (1938). He died on 6 August 1943.
