Biography

Heidi Handorf is a German film editor. She was born on 5 February 1949 in Uetersen, Schleswig-Holstein.

She trained as a photographer before moving into film post-production in the early 1970s, working as a cutting assistant on films by directors including Alexander Kluge and Volker Schlöndorff. Handorf became a lead editor in the mid-1970s and maintained long collaborations with Edgar Reitz and Reinhard Hauff. She led the editing team on Reitz’s 11-part series Heimat – Eine deutsche Chronik (1984) and edited Hauff’s Stammheim (1986), which won the Golden Bear at Berlin.

In a career spanning more than four decades she has edited over 80 feature-length films and numerous television episodes. Later work includes projects with Matti Geschonneck and Oliver Storz. In 2019 she received the Ehrenpreis Schnitt lifetime achievement award at the Filmplus festival.
