Biography
Helen Traubel was an American opera singer and actress. A dramatic soprano, she was known for her Wagnerian roles, particularly Brünnhilde and Isolde, and sang at the Metropolitan Opera from 1937 to 1953.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she began her career as a concert singer before her opera debut. From the 1950s she also performed in nightclubs and cabaret, and appeared in television, films and musical theatre.
Her film roles include Miss Helen N. Wellenmellon, a retired opera singer, in The Ladies Man (1961).
