Biography
Henry R. Bowers (1883–1912) was a British polar explorer and member of Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova expedition to the Antarctic. He appears in archive footage as himself in the 1924 documentary The Great White Silence, directed by Herbert G. Ponting, which incorporates material filmed during the expedition.
Bowers was born on 29 July 1883 in Greenock, Scotland. He joined the expedition in 1910 and was selected for the polar party that reached the South Pole in January 1912, only to perish with his companions on the return journey.
