Biography
Herbert G. Ponting was an English photographer and cinematographer. He served as the official photographer and filmmaker on Robert Falcon Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition to the Antarctic (1910–1913), capturing still images and moving footage of the journey, wildlife and expedition life.
Ponting later edited his material into the 1924 documentary The Great White Silence, in which he also appeared. He had trained and worked as a professional photographer before the expedition, with earlier travels in Asia and elsewhere.
