Biography
Hermann Vallentin (24 May 1872 – 18 September 1945) was a German actor. Born in Berlin, he trained at the Royal Theatre in Berlin with Max Grube and Hans Oberländer. He made his stage debut at the Central-Theatre in Berlin in the 1895/96 season and appeared on various Berlin stages in subsequent years.
From 1914 he worked extensively in film, often playing fatherly figures, patriarchs and directors, as well as small-minded philistines. His credits include Destiny (1921), The Haunted Castle (1921), The Last Laugh (1924), Spies (1928), Asphalt (1929) and Woman in the Moon (1929). In 1931 he appeared as Adolph Wormser in The Captain from Köpenick.
Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Vallentin emigrated to Czechoslovakia, where he performed on German-language stages in Ústí and Prague. He later worked in Switzerland before moving to Mandatory Palestine in 1939 and settling in Tel Aviv, where he retired from acting.
