Biography
Hesper Anderson was an American screenwriter and novelist. She wrote the screenplay for the 1986 film Children of a Lesser God, adapted from Mark Medoff's play, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as nominations from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and the Writers Guild of America.
Born in New York City in 1934, Anderson was the daughter of playwright Maxwell Anderson. She began her career writing for television series such as Marcus Welby, M.D. and The Streets of San Francisco, and contributed teleplays including The UFO Incident (1975) and The Deliberate Stranger (1986). Her other screen credits include Touched by Love (1980) and Grand Isle (1991). She later published the memoir South Mountain Road (2000) and the novel MacDougal Street Ghosts (2005). Anderson died in 2018.
