Biography
Hideo Kanze (観世栄夫) was a Japanese actor and Noh performer. Born in Tokyo on 3 August 1927, he was the second son of Kanze Tetsunojō VII of the Kanze school of Noh and made his stage debut at the age of three.
He trained in the Kanze school and briefly transferred to the Kita school before returning to the Kanze school. Kanze appeared in films from the 1960s onwards, including as a villager in Woman in the Dunes (1964), a policeman in Pitfall (1962), a male patient in The Face of Another (1966), Mikado in Kuroneko (1968) and roles in Demons (1971), Under the Blossoming Cherry Trees (1975) and Edo Porn (1981). He left Noh performance for a period but resumed in 1979 with assistance from his brother Hisao Kanze.
Kanze died in Tokyo on 8 June 2007.
