Biography
Hilton Edwards (1903–1982) was an English-born Irish actor, director and theatrical producer. He began his stage career in the early 1920s at the Old Vic in London and later co-founded the Gate Theatre in Dublin in 1928 with his partner Micheál Mac Liammóir.
Edwards appeared in around fifteen films. He played Brabantio in Orson Welles’s Othello (1951), P.H. in Victim (1961) and a lawyer in The Wrong Box (1966). He also wrote and directed the short film Return to Glennascaul (1952). Primarily known for his work in theatre, he directed more than 300 productions at the Gate and received a Tony Award nomination in 1966 for Philadelphia, Here I Come!.
