Biography
Hope Emerson was an American actress. She began performing as a child and worked in vaudeville before making her Broadway debut in Lysistrata in 1930.
She appeared in films from the late 1930s, with notable roles including Rose Given in Cry of the City (1948), Olympia La Pere in Adam's Rib (1949), Helena Domenico in House of Strangers (1949), Midge in Thieves' Highway (1949), Evelyn Harper in Caged (1950), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Patience Hawley in Westward the Women (1951), and Mrs. Rogers in Rock-a-Bye Baby (1958). She also worked in television, including a role in Peter Gunn.
