Biography
Hugo Arana (1943–2020) was an Argentine film, television and theatre actor. He grew up in the Buenos Aires area, studying acting with Marcello Lavalle and Augusto Fernandes, and began his career in the theatre group Errare Humanum Est. Early film roles included El Santo de la Espada (1970) and La tregua (1974).
Arana gained wide recognition in the 1980s through a popular Crespi wine advertisement and his performances in the television sitcom Matrimonios y algo más, playing the characters known as the Groncho and Huguito Araña. He appeared as Enrique Ibáñez in the Oscar-winning film The Official Story (1985) and later in A Place in the World (1992) and the series Los exitosos Pells (2008–2009). Arana died in Buenos Aires on 11 October 2020.
