Biography
Hugues de Montalembert is a French painter, writer and documentary filmmaker. Born in 1955 in Laval, Mayenne, he is the older brother of actor Thibault de Montalembert. He appears as himself in the 2005 documentary Black Sun, directed by Gary Tarn, in which he recounts losing his sight in a 1978 attack in New York.
De Montalembert has published several books, including À perte de vue (1990), which received the Prix Ève Delacroix from the Académie française. He has also made documentary films and continued to travel extensively after losing his sight.
