Biography
Inge Deutschkron was a German-Israeli journalist, author and Holocaust survivor. Born in Finsterwalde in 1922, she grew up in Berlin. She survived the Nazi regime by working in Otto Weidt’s workshop for the blind and later living in hiding with her mother.
After the war she worked as a journalist, becoming a correspondent for the Israeli newspaper Maariv in 1958. She reported on the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials and later moved to Israel. Her 1978 autobiography I Wore the Yellow Star was adapted for the stage. She was interviewed by Claude Lanzmann in 1979 for the documentary Shoah (1985). Deutschkron died in Berlin in 2022.
