Biography
Ira Wohl is an American documentary filmmaker, director and editor. Born in New York City in 1944, he attended Forest Hills High School. His first professional film role was as an apprentice editor on Orson Welles's unfinished Don Quixote in Madrid.
Wohl directed and edited the documentary Best Boy (1979), which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. He later made the sequels Best Man: 'Best Boy' and All of Us Twenty Years Later (1997) and Best Sister (2006). He also worked as a director and editor on episodes of the children's television series The Big Blue Marble.
In the early 1990s Wohl returned to study clinical social work at the University of Southern California. He has worked as a psychotherapist for students at the University of California, Los Angeles for more than twenty years.
