Biography
Irene Hervey (born Beulah Irene Herwick) was an American film, stage and television actress. Born on 11 July 1909 in Venice, California, she trained in acting under British performer Emma Dunn and appeared in school plays at Venice High School. She signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1933.
Hervey appeared in over fifty films across five decades. She moved to Universal Pictures in the late 1930s and played Janice Tyndall in the Western Destry Rides Again (1939), opposite James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich. Later film roles included Cactus Flower (1969) and Play Misty for Me (1971).
She also worked in theatre, including a Broadway run of State of the Union, and made numerous television appearances from the 1950s onwards, with guest roles in series such as Perry Mason, My Three Sons (for which she received an Emmy nomination) and Charlie's Angels. Hervey was married to singer and actor Allan Jones from 1936 to 1957; their son was singer Jack Jones. She died on 20 December 1998 in Woodland Hills, California.
