Biography
Isaac Iosifovich Schwartz (also known as Isaak Shvarts) was a Soviet and Russian composer. He was born on 13 May 1923 in Romny, Ukrainian SSR, and died on 27 December 2009 in Siversky, Leningrad Oblast, Russia.
Schwartz studied at the Leningrad Conservatory, graduating in 1951. He composed music for more than 100 films, beginning with his first major commission in 1959. His notable scores include The White Sun of the Desert (1969), Dersu Uzala (1975) for Akira Kurosawa, The Captivating Star of Happiness (1975) and Trial on the Road (1986). He also wrote for theatre and ballet.
Schwartz received the Nika Award in 1992 for his work on White King, Red Queen and Luna Park. He collaborated frequently with directors such as Vladimir Motyl and Sergei Solovyov.
