Biography
Jack Burns (born John Francis Burns) was an American comedian, actor, writer and producer. In the 1960s he formed comedy partnerships first with George Carlin and then with Avery Schreiber as Burns and Schreiber, known for their taxicab routines. He appeared as Deputy Warren Ferguson on The Andy Griffith Show in 1965–1966.
By the 1970s Burns had moved into writing and producing, serving as head writer and producer on the first season of The Muppet Show (1976) and co-writing The Muppet Movie (1979) with Jerry Juhl. He also wrote for Hee Haw and other variety series, and later provided voice work for The Simpsons, Animaniacs and Darkwing Duck. He died in 2020.
