Biography
Jacques Loiseleux was a French cinematographer and occasional director. Born on 18 March 1933 in Saint-Quentin, Aisne, he died on 17 March 2014 in Versailles. He began working in television in the early 1960s, including on the series Thierry la Fronde, before moving into feature films.
He served as director of photography on Maurice Pialat’s Loulou (1980), À nos amours (1983) and Van Gogh (1991), as well as on Joris Ivens’s A Tale of the Wind (1989). Other credits include La Femme flic (1980), Le Juge Fayard dit le shériff (1977) and Dupont Lajoie (1975). He was also credited as Robert-Jacques Loiseleux on some productions.
A founding member of the Association française des directeurs de la photographie cinématographique (AFC), Loiseleux served as its general secretary for over ten years and as a vice-president. He participated in film-training initiatives and taught at the Cuba Cinema School in Havana in later years. He was the father of film editor Valérie Loiseleux.
